Department: Street
Reports To: Garage Foreman
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Position Responsibilities (include but are not limited to the following):
- Schedules daily/weekly work assignments to employees.
- Maintains and services street vehicles and equipment in a safe and workable manner.
- Keeps work area clean and orderly.
- Reports employee infractions to Deputy Director.
- Works closely with vendors.
- Ensures proper repair by testing vehicles and equipment.
- Assists with performing heavy equipment duties in the event of an emergency or temporary shortage of line personnel.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Working ability to use a cutting torch and electric welder.
- Considerable ability to analyze equipment.
- Considerable ability to troubleshoot.
- Working knowledge of departmental operations and equipment.
- Must be Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified or must obtain certification within 12 months of employment start date.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Training: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Experience: Minimum 3 years of mechanical experience in heavy trucks or equipment. Preferably completed at least 1 year experience as a Mechanic’s Helper with the Street Department. Must have experience with hydraulics, brake systems, power transmission, suspension members, diesel engines, electrical systems and tune-up and carburetion on gasoline engines and accessories equipment.
Special Requirements: Must possess a Valid Commercial Driver’s License, Class A.
Working Conditions: Outdoors under harsh weather conditions.

- Ability to see within normal parameters.
- Must be able to left up to 50lbs.
- Ability to work under harsh weather conditions.
- Manual dexterity in hands and legs to use tools, bend and stretch.
