Department: Engineering
Reports To: Director of Construction & Asset Management
Position Responsibilities (include but are not limited to the following):
- Inspection of all work requiring permits within the public right of way
- Calling to the attention of the relevant contractor or utility, as the work progresses, all known deviations from, or infringement upon, the City’s specifications with respect to materials and workmanship
- Assist with data collection for areas requiring sidewalk repair, as needed
- Assist with data collection of public infrastructure as pertaining to GIS, as needed
- Taking phone calls from citizens with concerns regarding work in the public right of way
- Inspection of small scale public works construction projects, as needed
- Assist with any other activities performed by the department, as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- General computer knowledge
- General mathematical knowledge
- Ability to read site plans and project plans
- General knowledge of construction materials and methods
- Ability to be trained in infrastructure construction inspection
- Ability to handle the inspection and documentation of small scale capital projects
- Ability to remain professional in contentious situations
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
- High School diploma or GED
- At least one (1) year of related work experience in construction industry
Working Conditions: Office location, jobsite location
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to see within normal parameters
- Ability to work in harsh weather conditions
- Ability to bend, stoop, and twist
- Ability to lift 75 pounds
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to walk long distances
- Ability to read and distinguish construction codes and/or colors
Other Requirements:
- Excellent time management and multitasking skills
- Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Available to work any hours required
